Every professional started with an empty resume. The trick is understanding what counts as experience — because for entry-level roles, recruiters are not expecting a work history. They are looking for evidence of skills, reliability, and initiative. You have more of that evidence than you think.
Lead with education and make it work harder
As a fresher, education goes near the top. Do not just list the degree — add relevant coursework, your final-year project, GPA (if 3.0+), and academic achievements. Example: "BS Computer Science, FAST-NUCES, 2026 — Final year project: inventory management system used by a local pharmacy; Dean's List 3 semesters."
Projects are your work experience
Academic projects, freelance gigs, a website you built for a relative's shop, a research paper, a YouTube channel you grew — these demonstrate real skills. Write them exactly like job bullets: action verb + what you built + result. "Built an Excel dashboard tracking 500+ inventory items, reducing stock-check time from 2 hours to 20 minutes."
Count everything that shows responsibility
Internships (even short ones), volunteer work, student societies, event organizing, tutoring, part-time and family-business work all count. Organizing a university event for 200 people proves planning, budgeting, and teamwork — say so with numbers.
Certifications close the gap fast
Free and low-cost certificates (Google, Coursera, Microsoft, HubSpot) signal initiative and give ATS software keywords to match. Pick 2-3 relevant to your target role and list them in their own section.
Write a fresher-appropriate summary
Do not pretend to have experience. Instead: degree + strongest skills + one proof point + eagerness. "Marketing graduate with hands-on social media experience growing a campus society page from 800 to 5,000 followers in one year. Certified in Google Digital Marketing. Seeking an entry-level role to apply content and analytics skills."
Keep the format tight
One page, clean single-column layout, standard headings, no photo-heavy designs. Recruiters expect a fresher CV to be short — padding it with filler hurts more than white space does.
The skills section strategy
List 8-12 concrete skills, mixing technical (Excel, Canva, Python, WordPress) with transferable ones backed by your bullets (report writing, customer communication).
